Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State who before now announced his interest in contesting for the Presidency in the 2019 Presidential election, has pulled out of the presidential race.
Governor Ayodele Fayose who received the duo of former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and former minister, Kabir Turaki Taminu, disclosed when the Presidential aspirants came to lobby him and delegates in the state PDP.
The Ekiti State Governor who not only opened campaign offices but also came out with retinue of branded vehicles with which to campaign for the presidential race, said he had to drop the ambition as mark of sympathy and concern for his deputy, Kolapo Olusola-Eleka who lost in the last gubernatorial election in the state.
NAN reported that he said…
”I dropped the presidential ambition because of the stolen mandate freely given to my deputy. As a good leader, I cannot abandon my loyal deputy whose mandate was stolen by the APC and be pursuing another ambition My posters are there in a room. I am committed to the recovery of the mandate for now more than anything else.”
The visit came after it was reported that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Ekiti State, accused the state Governor Mr. Ayodele Fayose of allegedly purchasing a N74 million vehicle and payment of N43million severance package as parting gifts.
The workers in a joint statement signed by NLC chairman, Prince Raymond Ade Adesanmi and his TUC counterpart, Mr. Odunayo Adesoye, described it as an act of insensitivity to the plight of workers in the state.
The union wondered why a governor who has refused to pay backlog of salaries, would be contemplating buying of exotic vehicle and paying himself severance as packages. They disclosed that there would be industrial crisis in the state, if the governor proceeded with his plans in paying himself and his Deputy that huge amount and purchasing the new vehicle.
